  15. <p>     DIED. Malcolm S. Forbes, 70, flamboyant publisher and high
  16. priest of conspicuous consumption; of a heart attack; in Far
  17. Hills, N.J. A son of the man who founded semimonthly Forbes
  18. ("The Capitalist  Tool") in 1917, Forbes was a World War II hero
  19. who took over the privately owned family business in 1964. His
  20. brash magazine thrived, partly on account of his talent for
  21. wooing advertisers with lavish parties, ballooning expeditions
  22. and trips on his megayacht Highlander. Forbes' net worth--never disclosed in his magazine's annual list of the 400
  23. richest Americans--was between $400 million and $1 billion.
  24. The collector of motorcycles and Faberge eggs caused a
  25. controversy with his $2 million 70th birthday bash in Tangiers
  26. last August. The fuss never bothered Forbes, who said he got
  27. where he was "through sheer ability (spelled
  28. i-n-h-e-r-i-t-a-n-c-e)."
